Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how METRIX - HALO ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use HALO Desktop Search. We take privacy seriously. Your data stays on your computer.
1. Who We Are
METRIX - HALO is the developer and publisher of HALO Desktop Search, a local-first desktop search application for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

2. What Data HALO Collects
HALO is a local-first application. Almost all processing happens on your device.
Data stored locally on your device (never transmitted):
- Search index โ file names, paths, and extracted text. Stored in halo.db on your device only.
- Folder identities โ icons, colors, descriptions. Stored in halo-data.json on your device only.
- Trial metadata โ installation timestamp, launch count. Stored in halo.db on your device only.
- License key โ your activation key after purchase. Stored in halo.db on your device only.
Data we receive when you make a purchase:
- When you purchase HALO Pro through Stripe, we receive your email address to deliver your license key.
- We do not store your credit card number, bank details, or any payment credentials.
- Your email is used solely for license delivery and is not used for marketing without your consent.
Crash reporting (optional):
- HALO includes optional crash reporting powered by Sentry. Enabled by default, can be disabled in Control Center at any time.
- Crash reports may include: OS version, app version, and error stack trace. No file names or personal data are included.
3. What We Do Not Collect
- File contents are never transmitted to us or any third party.
- Your folder names, file names, and search queries are never transmitted.
- We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or analytics SDKs inside the application.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the EEA, we process your email address on the legal basis of contract performance (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) to deliver the license key you purchased. Crash reporting data is processed on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time in the Control Center.
5. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to processing. Contact us at support@metrix.com.de to exercise any of these rights. We will respond within 30 days.
6. Third-Party Services

7. Children's Privacy
HALO is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy at any time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top. Continued use of HALO after changes constitutes acceptance.
